Stiffkey Fen Restoration

Working in partnership with the Buxton Conservation Trust, Natural England and former RSPB expert Norman Sills we have restored a 12 hectare SSSI area of fen, reed-bed and open water at Stiffkey Fen.  The Fen is one of Norfolk’s key sites for wading birds, particularly avocets.  By excavating old and new channels and creating new back-waters and ponds we have improved water flow through the fen, and improved and refreshed the reed-beds around the margins.  The project will reduce the need to pump water into the fen, and will improve water quality and habitat diversity greatly.
