Eels released in the River Glaven
Monday September 28th, 2015
Today we had our first school release their elvers into the River Glaven. Astley village primary joined Jonah and Ursula at Letheringsett ford where they listened to the tale of Elvis the eel and the problems he faces whilst travelling up the Glaven. The children did some river dipping to find invertebrates in the stream; one group caught a stone loach AND a stickleback! They played a food chains game to learn more about aquatic life and made themselves some pet eels using pegs and googly eyes. After that they took it in turns to release and elver into the water. We were joined by Firside school from Norwich who were on a river trip so they got a chance to see an elver up close and watched the release. It was a great day and the sun shone for us, smiles all round!
