Glaven Beaver Tour

In this tour of the Glaven beaver site you will be shown around the 6 hectare enclosure. You will get to see all the field signs of the Eurasian beaver and get an insight into the way they can help mitigate flooding, protect our chalk streams and benefit almost every aspect of the environment around them through their activities. Beavers are predominantly nocturnal so you are very unlikely to see them during the tour, but we can assure you the experience will be interesting enough!

Up to 8 people per tour. Please book 1 ticket per person attending in your group.

What to wear

It is essential for your safety and comfort that you dress appropriately for the site and for the weather. Long trousers and tall wellington boots are ESSENTIAL. Parts of the site are ankle-deep in water. For the health of our beavers and the River Glaven, it is crucial that your footwear has been cleaned thoroughly and dried for at least 48 hours prior to your visit. This is to ensure that no diseases or invasive species are carried on your footwear into the enclosure. If you arrive with unclean footwear the guide has the right to deny access to the site.

Health and Safety

The tour is on foot, and therefore requires moderate fitness with an ability to climb styles and navigate overgrown, narrow trails . The guide will make frequent stops to point out beaver dams, lodges, and features as well as other wildlife. There is no active footpath management on the site and terrain is uneven, very wet, and slippery in places. Please bring hand gel or wipes to ensure you clean your hands before and after the visit to avoid the risk of Weil’s disease and please refrain from eating in the enclosure. While there is no age limit, young children under the age of 8 will struggle to walk on site and it is unsuitable for buggies.

Be prepared to be wild!

Our skilled guides deserve to be treated with respect at all times. If they feel they are being treated unfairly or if your behaviour is unacceptable, they reserve the right to cancel the tour.

Dogs

Due to the environmentally sensitive nature of the site, we regret that dogs are not permitted at this event.
