River Tiffey weir removal

In partnership with the Environment Agency, Norfolk Rivers Trust have completed the removal of an old weir in the River Tiffey.

Located near Wymondham Abbey, the weir was once used by a brush factory to cool the condenser of the nearby factory’s steam turbine. However, it has been disused for a long period of time, and was inhibiting fish from migrating along the River Tiffey.

Immediately after removal, the river was flowing more freely. This will enable some of the natural riverine habitat and structure to recover, providing an improved habitat for invertebrates. Furthermore, the work should reduce the risk of flooding for properties that are located close to Damgate Bridge.
